Batory Foods is a leading national distributor of high quality food ingredients for a broad range of food manufacturers and the food industry throughout the United States. Batory Foods is seeking a highly motivated and creative Quality Assurance Manager. Reporting to Director‐Quality Assurance, this role will be responsible for execution, monitoring and handling day to day activities that involve QA policies, programs, procedures, training and in‐house laboratory functions.

The main plant is located in south side of Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities

This position provides leadership to develop, implement, maintain and proactively improve quality management programs, methods and systems to assure product, processes, and environments conform to BRC Standards.

The QA Manager in this role proactively identifies improvements to quality systems to minimize food safety risks to the business and maintains strong preventative programs. The position not only acts as a technical resource but also monitors and maintains day to day QA functions in multiple facilities.

This position backs up the Technical Services Manager during absences and is expected to be the lead on technical reports and making recommendations to the business based on the process data. The job also involves training associates, conducting internal process audits, and assuring corrective actions are appropriately implemented. The QA Manager promotes product safety and product quality awareness to sales and supply within the site at all times.

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Drive food safety compliance by working with Manufacturing and Warehouse leadership staff.
  • Create, support and enhance the standardization of food safety requirements, documentation and execution of plant processes.
  • Provide HACCP guidance to the organization including HACCP plan reviews and validation.
  • Support specified customer and supplier initiatives in conjunction with the Technical Services and the Technical Documentation department.
  • Oversee QA functions and activities in all 3 facilities
  • Create, standardize and maintain HACCP, SOP and SSOPs and audit the program
  • Maintain BRC standards in the above facilities
  • Update BRC quality manual as needed (must follow proper channel for approval)
  • Perform internal audits, develop corrective actions, root cause analysis and follow‐up
  • Inspect in‐coming and out‐going trucks and products according to Receiving and Shipping policy
  • Review QC records from production and Warehouse per HACCP requirement
  • Manage, update and maintain pest control records
  • Assess significant food safety situations and make recommendations regarding disposition of product and future preventative measures
  • Implement and manage allergen control program according to the policy
  • Develop and manage the system to verify incoming COAs prior to acceptance of vendor supply ingredients
  • Lead cross functional Food Safety teams and efforts
  • Maintain Customer audits and Regulatory audits, and follow‐up
  • Provide guidance, evaluate and further develop the environmental pathogen testing program
  • Maintain mock recall program activities in all 3 facilities
  • Manage and maintain disposition of non‐conformance (QA hold) products for release/reject
  • Verify labels and nutritional information for all manufactured products
  • Conduct all required employee training – as scheduled and needed
  • Audit Kosher certificate for compliance
  • Assist with all export papers
  • Monitor production weights daily ‐OAK
  • Investigate non‐compliance reports including picking errors and custom labeling
  • Work with plant to identify gaps and implement solid solutions
  • Assist Director of QA with programs/procedures
  • Additional duties as assigned by Director of QA


Education and Qualifications: 

  • 6‐8 years of experience in food manufacturing in the food safety and quality assurance
  • Understanding of microbiological and chemical testing and analysis
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations
  • Working knowledge of GFSI/BRC Standards. Prefer candidates with prior experience with implementation of BRC standards but not mandatory
  • Presentations skills for delivering training programs to a wide variety of audiences
  • Strong leadership ability with self‐discipline and initiative to carry out improvements of job‐related responsibilities
  • Flexibility to adapt to regularly changing priorities and quality issues
  • Demonstrate effective technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and provide solutions
  • Ability to influence and drive positive change
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with good time management
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all levels of employees as well as internal and external customers
